Western Australia Series

M32 Series
lands in western australia

Over the 2016 season Aston Harald Sports has opened M32 Series in Bermuda, Monaco, Miami and in the Mediterranean as well as a World Championship in July 2017 in Marstrand, Sweden. These have been a great complement to the M32 racing that already was organized in Scandinavia and in North America. To meet the growing interest in the M32 class in Australia the commercial owner of the brand M32 Series have now announced the start of a new series, M32 Series Western Australia.

Innaugral event
at mounts bay sailing club

Hosted by Mounts Bay Sailing Club, the M32 Series Western Australia will be a mixture of short course races outside the yacht club and longer races using the larger expanse of the Swan River’s Melville Water. The Sailing Club sits on the shore, next to Royal Perth Yacht Club.

This friendly club has a long history of hosting big regattas, and with the help of the Australian M32 events team, this should be a spectacular event, with up to eight boats on the course at the same time. Launching is off the lawn, right in front of the club, so there is a chance to get up close to these magnificent machines and talk to the crews before or after the races.

While all the teams taking part are very experienced sailors, some of them will be sailing the M32 for the first time, so they have the challenge of adapting to the acceleration and hull-flying that make these boats so exciting. Making the transition from, say a 60 foot monohull offshore racing boat to a 32 foot high performance catamaran, requires a very different set of skills, and sailing in the close company of a fleet race will test the abilities of the new teams.

Could there be some potential M32 owners amongst the teams? It will be very interesting to talk to these sailors and get their opinions on the “stadium style” sailing that is becoming a bigger part of the sport.
